For the last couple of weeks, I’ve been on the lower Pamlico River and South Creek looking for some of the bluebills and canvasbacks that we old timers had become accustomed to seeing in these mid-winter hunting days. I’ve run the river from Blount’s Bay to where the Pamlico River becomes the Pamlico Sound and it’s been depressing. We will provide weather and navigational guidance as the cruise nears, but we’ll use the standard float plan to Belhaven via the Bay River, Hobucken Cut (ICW), across the Pamlico River and up the Pungo River, a distance of about 40nm. We’ll have a social at the marina on Saturday at 4 pm. Please provision to bring an appetizer or dessert. To monitor and protect the Neuse and Tar-Pamlico River watersheds covering nearly one quarter of North Carolina, and to preserve the health and beauty of the river basin through environmental justice.
Boyne Thunder Poker Run Marshal Boat To The Rescue. Details Created: Wednesday, 17 July 2019 20:52 Written by Jason Johnson While dialing Lawrence Coelho’s number yesterday, I was unsure what kind of mood he’d be in and whether he’d even want to talk about his experience at the Boyne Thunder Poker Run in Northern Michigan, an event he’s told me is one of his favorite runs of the year.
There is no more iconic fish in North Carolina coastal river systems than the striped bass or 'rockfish', which makes its annual run from the Pamlico Sound through the Pamlico River and into the freshwater Tar River, and also to the north from the Albemarle Sound into the Roanoke River.

Though Stripers are found throughout the entire Pamlico River, the new net boundary allows a good portion of the “Striper Zone” to flow free of webbing. Between the closure of keeper season on the Rec’s and keeping a prime zone of river free on tangle, the Striper has to see rapid improvement.
This time of year in both the Pamlico and Neuse rivers, and the Pamlico sound. west side away from OBX you will be catching mostly specks and some red drum (more red drum as it warms) and stripers. There is a moratorium on keeping stripers at the moment.

The striped bass bite has been consistent on the Pamlico River, with good-sized fish holding tight to structure. The Roanoke River striped bass bite has been hot as well, but there are a lot of short fish around. In the next couple weeks, anglers will be seeing the larger class of fish move through.
The Pamlico River bite has been great this year. The striped bass that are holding on structure and ledges from the Tar River on down are crushing Rat-L-Trap baits. A good, mild winter seems to have been great for these fish. Speckled trout fishing has been steady as well, with anglers seeing this bite have a remarkable winter.
Local business owners are banding together to raise funds for children afflicted by cancer with a fun run down the Pamlico River. On Saturday, dozens of boats will take to the river for “Haulin’ Ass on the Pamlico,” a fundraiser created by brothers Chris Bowers and Brad Parham.
